PROCLAMATION OF 1763

THE STAMP ACT AND THE INTOLERABLE ACTS
To pay for the French and Indian War the British created the Stamp Act. It placed taxes on legal documents, newspapers, and even playing cards. This act caused the colonists to rebel the taxes and ignore them. This caused the British to create the Intolerable Acts. It included four laws but one of them remained known. The Quartering Act was one and allowed the colonists to house British soldiers.
