  • Prologue
  • Go your own way; I will bury my brother; And if I die for it, what happiness!
  • O think, Antigone; we are women;it is not for us to fight against men; our rulers are stronger than we, and we must obey in this, or in worse than this.
  • Parados
  • Save two luckless brothers in one fight matched together and in one death laid low.
  • Scene 1
  • He is to have no grave, no burial, no mourning from anyone, it is forbidden. He is to be left unburied, left to be eaten by dogs and vultures, a horror for all to see.
  • Antigone and Ismene argue over whether covering their brothers body is the right thing to do. Antigone plans to do it and asks for Ismene's help but Ismene refuses.
  • Scene 2
  • Justice, that dwells with the gods below, knows no such law.
  • the chorus explain what happened during the battle between the two brothers and why it happened, showing that both sons died and Creon rises to power once more .
  • Scene 3
  • Despicable coward! No more will than a woman!
  • Creon declares that Polynices body is to be left untouched and left for animals to eat. He also says that if anyone were to mourn, bury or even touch the body they would be stoned to death.
  • Scene 4
  • The sentry brings the culprit of they burial of Polynices which is Antigone. He is angered more as she boasts of the deed, telling him it was god's law that overruled Creon's.
  • Creon plans to send Antigone into a cave and let her die, assuming his son would agree but is frustrated as Haemon insults him and argues with him, siding with Antigone.
  • I have nothing to be ashamed of.
  • Antigone accepts her death with pride, not afraid or regretful of what she did in God's law.
  • My child, you have gone your way to outermost limit of daring.
