  • EXPERIMENT 2
  • Participants watched videos of traffic accidents.
  • What was the speed of the cars when they hit?
  • They were then split into five groups and asked one of the questions above.
  • When was the speed of the cars when they collided?
  • What was the speed of the car when they bumped?
  • What was the speed of the cars when they smashed?
  • What was the speed of the cars when they contacted?
  • The participants then gave a response to the question they were asked. These responses were recorded and put into a table.
  • Smashed = 40.8 Collided = 39.3 Bumped =38.1 Hit = 34.0 Contacted = 31.8 The results show that, the harsher the verb, the higher the average speed. Therefore the type of verb used has an affect on the answer given.
  • FINDINGS
  • EXPERIMENT 2
  • Participants watched a video showing a car accident. After a week, they were asked 'did you see any broken glass?'. There was no broken glass in the video.
  • The findings show that the leading question did change the actual memory that a participant had of the event.
