A day as an ELL student
By lazara42, Updated
This board gives you a brief view at what both an ESOL IA and an ELL students day looks like.
Hola and welcome to our school. I'm Mrs. Gomez, the ESOL Instructional Assistant. Today you will meet a new classmate that just moved from Mexico. She doesn't know English, but we will all work together to make her feel welcomed and help her learn the language.
No entiendo a los niños.
Hi! What's your name?
That must be the new girl from Mexico.
We want our new classmate to feel welcomed and safe. I will introduce myself and then ask her how she pronounces her name. I speak Spanish to our new friend and that helps her feel at ease that someone will understand her.
Maria has many friends now and they too have played an important role in helping her learn English. I think she is going to do great!
I will get together with Maria's teacher and Administration to find out ways we can better assist her in the classroom.
Mrs. Gomez, please feel free to stop by at anytime. I will also send you a copy of vocabulary words to preview with Maria.
Sometimes, Maria might be part of a small group of ELL students that may need to review the material that the teacher presented as a whole group.
Hi friends! Hola amigos. Come play with me.
