Depressed, Gilgamesh lets his life fall apart. He then panics and heads to Utnapishtim to be granted eternal life.
Once he gets there he meets Utnapishtim where he gives him one task: if he were to stay awake for six days and seven nights without falling asleep, he would be granted eternal life. He fails to do so.
Gilgamesh wondered why humans were to die. He was told that the god Enlil, had brought a great flood to destroy all humankind. He drove the gods away with a powerful rain and humankind was ridden of except for one survivor, Utnapishtim.
Utnapishtim told him that the other gods had scolded Enlil for his decisions without the help of Ea, the god of earth and water. Enlil then took Utnapishtim and his wife and made them gods and were brought to dwell where he was found.
Utnapisthim gave Gilgamesh one last chance at eternal life. He granted him a plant with when eaten would give one eternal youth. Pleased, Gilgamesh took the plant and returned home
On his journey, he set his plant aside to stop and bathe in a pool of water. Without noticing, a serpent snatched his plant and scurried off. Disappointed, Gilgamesh returned home and like everyone else, later died.
