Welcome! I'm excited for this school year. I have expectations that each of you are going to have a successful year. I would like each of you to write down a goal for the end of the year and tell me what I can do to help you get there.
Awesome! Now let's come up with some ways that we can help each other in the classroom. Let's work together to come up with a set of class rules.
RULES 1. Be a good friend
Students need to know that I am here to help them reach their desired goals. I want them to trust the learning process and know that I am here to help, not harm or discourage them.
By the students coming up with their own goals, it takes the pressure of them and makes the classroom a more comfortable environment. But at the same time they've created their goals and I'll be able to hold them accountable for reaching them.
By working together to create class rules, and gathering a list of ways we can help each other, brings the class together. It lets each other know that we're all here to help and keeps uniformity in the classroom.
