Storyboard Text

  • Step 1 - "The Ordinary World"
  • Step 2 - "The Call To Adventure"
  • Step 3 - "Refusal of the Call"
  • In the beginning of the story Liesel, a nine year old German girl, is on a train with her mother and her little brother Werner. They are on their way to Molching, Germany where the two children will be adopted. This is because their mother and father were communists and were being chased by the Nazis. Liesel has no idea that she will become a book thief or that her little brother will die.
  • Step 4 - "Meeting the Mentor"
  • Liesel's brother dies on the train ride to Molching. Liesel and her mother stop in a train stop to give her brother a funeral. After the burial, Liese notices there is a book buried under the snow, "The Grave Diggers Handbook", and she steals it. This was the first book that she stole.
  • Step 5 - "Crossing the Threshold"
  • Liesel goes to live with the Hubermann family in 33 Himmel Street, in Molching, Germany. There she mourns the loss of Werner and the abandonment she just suffered from her mother. She does not wish to read much, as she does not know how to do so, and she has nightmares that haunt her every night.
  • Step 6 - "Tests and Enemies"
  • Liesel meets the mentor, her new father (adoptive father). Hans Hubermann, helps her with her nightmares about her brother. He reads to her and plays the accordion, eventually teaching her how to read, at first reading her the story and then teaching her how to read and comprehend the words she was reading.
  • Liesel is put into a Nazi school where people make fun of her for not being able to read or write properly. There she is forces to attend to mandatory book burnings, where she steals her second book from the ashes of the fire. She hides the book underneath her coat against her chest, burning her. She crosses the threshold because this is the first time she consiously steals a book, challenging society.
  • Max Vadenburg, a jew, comes to the Hubermann family one day, He was being chased by the Nazis, and hans Hubermann takes him in, being as his father and saved his life and iven him his accordion. Max becoms Liesel's ally, in which she can confide in, they bother share a passion for readingand words. Liesel helps Max deal with nightmares, and is a hero by keeping the secret. Another ally of Liesel's is his friend Rudy, who helps her steal books from Ilsa Hermann, the mayor's wife. Her major enemies are the Nazi's, that have been bombing their neighbourhood. The test Liesel partakes in are in the bomb shelter, where she reads to calm people down from what is happening.
