Let's take a trip to China in the Han Dynasty. I will tell you more about the Hand Dynasty later. Now let's go to China to learn about warfare, agriculture, art, government, and medicine.
The Han Dynasty had a powerful army. Historians estimate the Han Army had 130,000 to 300,000 soldiers. The favorite weapon of the Han army was the crossbow. Did you know that the Han invented the kite? They used it for military purposes. They were used to send messages from one part of an army to another. With the new advances in iron the army could upgrade their armor.
Farmers had to grow their own food for their families and to stock the granaries. They also had to build their own homes which must have been challenging. One invention that helped the farmer was the chain pump. this made farming easier because they could transport water easier. Another invention that helped was the wheelbarrow. This helped the farmers carry heavy loads.
Calligraphy is a type of writing. People who were calligraphers would write on paper. The invention of paper was amazing for calligraphers. The letters wouldn't bleed through and smear. Silk was very expensive. Bamboo was were cheaper but, they were awkward and bulky. The invention of paper also changed the way people communicated.
The Han Emperors needed many government officials to help run the empire. The highest-level Han officials lived in the capital. They would give advise to the emperor on their decisions. Lower-level officials lived among the empire. An improvement that the empire emperor made was how they hired cicil servants or government officials.
