  • Abigail Williams
  • She doesn't really have a reputation in Salem. She is very low on the totem pole and is considered an outcast in the town. No matter what she does her reputation has really changed. 
  • She is the niece of Reverend. She is a very deceiving individual and is the villain of the play. She is very revengeful and is willing to ruin anyone's reputation for her success.   
  • Abigail is quite revengeful and she accuses several women of witchcraft but her main focus of revenge is Elizabeth Proctor. She wants to replace Elizabeth as John's wife.

  • Reverend Parris

  • His reputation is very high. His daughter has become ill and thought to have been involved with witchcraft. If this is true, Parris' reputation will be ruined and he will be a disgrace. He has always been seen around town as a Christian and if the witchcraft is true then his reputation will change.
  • He is the Father of Betty and the Uncle of Abigail. He is a  fanatic about his reputation. He is the mister of Salem. 
  • He accuses people who he believes as a threat or have come to overthrow the court.

  • He is the main character. He had an affair with Abigail. He is a main part of the Salem Witch trials. He is kind of an arrogant man with and authoritative personality. 
  • His reputation is definitely at stake here. He had an affair with Abigail and get his wife out of prison, he has a high chance that his secret will be exposed to the public. He is seen as a local farmer but makes himself know to the town.  
  • By the end of the story John himself is accused of witchcraft, along with his wife.

  • He comes becase Parris has called him to come investigate the witchcraft assumption that has affected Betty. He uses his skill to hunt out the devil.
  • His reputation relies heavily on him trying to figure out the witchcraft in Salem

  • Elizabeth (Goody) Proctor
  • She was always a good, honest, Christian, family oriented woman. When she was accused of witchcraft this ruined her reputation.
  • Elizabeth is the wife of John Proctor. She dislikes Abigail because she had and affair with her husband John.
  • Rebecca Nurse
  • She doesn't believe in witchcraft but she later gets accused and that ruins her reputation.
  • She is the wife of Francis Nurse. She comes to Parris' house to calm everyone as they investigate Betty's condition.
  • He is trying to get the accused witches to confess and save their lives
  • She was accused of Witchcraft by Abigail Williams
  • She gets accused of murdering the Putnam's 7 infant children.
