  • There are many causes that led to the Civil War. One of the main cause was the division between the North and the South on the idea and the act of slavery.
  • 3. Harriet Tubman
  • After Abraham Lincoln's election, South Carolina, followed by other southern states, announced secession. The pro-slavery states established the Conferderacy which lead to the Civil War
  • 4. Underground Railroad
  • Slavery was introduced to America in the early 17th century. Slaves were forced to work on plantations. Slaves received harsh treatments and were treated as properties.
  • 5. Abraham Lincoln's Election
  • Harriet Tubman was one of the conductor of the Underground Railroad. She helped more than 300 slaves and made more than 19 trips to the South.
  • To escape to freedom, slaves used the Underground Railroad. The Underground Railroad are network of meeting places and secret roads. The conductors helped slaves to find ways and escape from the owners. Between 1810-1850, more than 100,000 slaves used this Underground Railroad.
  • Abraham Lincoln was the 16th president of the United States. He was the first president from the Republic Party. After his election, South Carolina announced secession.
