Exposition: Mme. Loisel is sorrow and deeply unhappy that is does not live an upper-class, aristocratic life.
Complications: One day Mme. Loisel's husband brings Mme. Loisel an invitation to a social affair at the Ministry, but Mme. Loisel refuses, claiming that she doesn't have appropriate garments for the event.
I refuse to go, I do not wish to be called poor with my rags on.
Honey! Guess what came in the mail today? An invitation for you to join a social affair at the Ministry.
Conflict: (Women vs. Self) Mme. Loisel complains and cries that she cannot go to the social event because she does not have a dress or any jewelry.
Resolution/Outcome: Over the course of ten years Mme. Loisel and her husband have endlessly tried to pay off the lost diamond necklace by taking loans, credits, and performing more manuel labor. Only to one day discover that Mme. Forsetier's necklace was made from paste instead of diamond.
In order for me to go, I need proper jewelry and an formal dress which I don't have.
Development: Mme. Loisel's husband gives Mme. Loisel 400 francs to buy a dress, and Mme. Losiel borrows a "diamond" necklace from Mme. Forestier and eventually decides to go to the social affair.
Climax: During Mme. Loisel's jounery back home from the Minisrty, she loses Mme. Forestier's "diamond" necklace supposingly in the cab back home.
I've been suffering for ten years to pay off your lost diamond necklace.
It was made from paste, not diamond, costing at most 500 francs.
