  • The Adams - Onis Treaty of 1819 (Transcontinental Treaty) was a treaty where Spain gave the land of Florida to the US, because it was getting to challenging and complicated to manage.

  • Tallahassee Established as Florida Capitol
  • Tallahassee, located in the central panhandle, was first established as the capitol of Florida on November 1, 1823 right after the Adams - Onis Treaty.

  • First Florida State Seal
  • The first Florida state seal was made in 1847, it was black and white and depicted the state of Florida with numerous boats and an island surrounding it. It also said "State of Florida, In God is our Trust," in the outer ring of the seal.
  • End of Reconstruction as a New State
  • The reconstruction of Florida ended in 1877. After the Civil War and the Adams - Onis Treaty, Florida needed to be reconstructed as a new US state. With the established capitol and state seal, Florida was practically already a State.
  • In all, the 1800's was an extremely progressive and important time in Florida history. These were some of the most constructive periods in Florida history.
