  • The French and Indian War was significant because the British started ruling over the colonists at the conclusion of the war. At this time the colonists first started getting mad at parliament for taxing them to pay for the war and enforcing new laws. This protest led to the Declaration of Independence - the colonists didn't want to follow the rules of the British and they wanted more self-governement.
  • Boston Tea Party
  • Dump all the tea into Boston Harbor!!
  • This is what the British get for putting tax on tea!
  • The Stamp Act was significant because it made the colonists very angry that they had to pay taxes for such basic things like playing cards, birth certificates, diplomas, contracts, and newspapers. It also was important because it was the first time that you see people coming together to fight back. This led to the Declaration of Independence because there are now people fighting the British about their rules and wanting to be independent.
  • First Continental Congress
  • We need the ask Parliament to take away 13 of their acts
  • The Boston Massacre was significant because it made the colonists even more mad at the British for using so much violence. It is also significant because it showed the colonists that the British were ruling in such a tyrannical way. This led to the Declaration of Independence because the colonists no longer wanted to be a part of a government who appeared to be ruling so despotically.
  • Second Continental Congress
  • Welcome to the Second Continental Congress I am George Washington, your new military commander!
  • The Boston Tea party was important because it shows how the British underestimated how the colonists could protest on such a high level. Another reason it was important is because the British responded by closing Boston Harbor, which was a major port for the colonies. This led to the Declaration of Independence because it increased the anger that the colonists were feeling at the British for closing Boston Harbor.
  • The First Continental Congress was significant because it was the first time the colonies united. It was also significant because it was illegal to have such meetings and therefore the colonists were willing to break laws to organize. This led to the Declaration of Independence because it shows that the colonists are engaging in their own form of government and are ready to make changes.
  • Everyone needs to boycott ALL British goods
  • We should form a militia!
  • Let's write a letter to King George III saying what he needs to change
  • The second continental congress was important because this is when the colonists formed their military. Since they now have a military, it is evident that they are ready to fight if necessary. This is important in leading to the Declaration of Independence because they are ready to fight for their independence.
