  • Holdens Red Hunting hat represents the theme of alienation for self- protection. He believes it stands out, therefore people will not approach him.
  • The Pain of Growing Up
  • The Museum is symbol of the world Holden wishes to live in, where nothing ever changes
  • Holden Returns Home
  • Holden worries where the ducks will go during the winter. The ducks are a symbol that represent a younger side of Holden
  • At the ride, Phoebe gives Holden his red hunting hat and gets on the ride. Holden watches her and almost starts to cry.
  • After his time with Phoebe he decides to head back home with his parents, undecided as to what he will do with his future.
