  • Hamartia
  • Hamlet's flaw is his inability to act. Hamlet in other words procrastinates.
  • "All saws of books, all forms, all pressures past, That youth and observation copied there, And thy commandment all alone shall live...Unmixed with baser matter. Yes, by heaven!"
  • Peripeteia
  • The peripeteia happens when Hamlet has the perfect chance to kill Claudius, but he does not follow through. This hesitation eventually leads him to death.
  • "To take him in the purging of his soul, When he is fit and seasoned for his passage? No. Up sword, and know thou a more horrid hent".
  • Anagnorisis
  • "O, from this time forth, my thoughts be bloody, or be nothing worth!"
  • When Hamlet finally realizes Claudius did indeed kill his father. Hamlet now knows he is suppose to kill Claudius for his own father's revenge.
  • "Here, thou incestuous, murderous, damned Dane, drink off this potion. Is thy union here? Follow my mother."
  • Nemesis
  • When Hamlet decides to go ahead and kill Claudius, because he now knows he is guilty for the murder of his father.
  • When Hamlet engages in a sword fight with Laertes. The audience sympathizes with Hamlet because Laertes and Claudius are going to play the game unfairly by trying to poison Hamlet.
  • Catharsis
  • "I embrace it freely, and will this brother’s wager frankly play.— Give us the foils. Come on."
