JUSTICE AND THE LAW
The central idea of love is displayed throughout the text. During the play right after the crate of whiskey disappears Eddie returns home drunk. Upon arrival Eddie finds Catherine and Rodolpho home all alone. When he approaches him Rodolpho states "Yes! She'll be my wife. That is what i want. My wife!" (Page 58). This is an example of love because Rodolpho and Catherine want to get married and move out.
The central idea of honor is being portrayed throughout the play. In the final scene of the play Eddie tells Marco he wants his name back stating, "Wipin' the neighborhood with my name like a dirty rag! I want my name, Marco" (page 78). Eddie believes that he has lost his reputation because Marco accused him of calling immigration on him.
The central idea of Justice and Law is displayed throughout the play. In this scene Marco states to Alfieri " The law? All the law is not in a book." (page 73) The Law he is talking about is the law of honor. Eddie did not show honor towards Marco and Rodolpho when he reported them to immigration.
