That actually is not a huge concern because marketers want their designs to be original and unique so that consumers will buy it! However, there are issues that can come about from the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act.
Okay! I understand that! But aren't there issues that arise from copying logos and designs?
What is the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act?
The Foreign Corrupt Practices Act says that it is illegal to make payments to foreign government officials in order to gain more business. Sports marketers buy their clothing from puma, nike, adidas etc. Puma, for example is a German company that sells apparel in the U.S. If a team were to work out a deal with a foreign official to make merchandise cheaper, that would be violating this act. 6
I see how that could be an issue for sports team marketers! Hopefully they are all educated on this potential issue!
