  • it is midnight in December when the man hears someone tapping at his bedroom door. He tries to calm himself by saying it is only a visitor.
  • falling action
  • get out!
  • the man told whoever was at his door that he was asleep and barely heard him, but when he opened the door, no one was there.
  • resolution
  • the man heard a tapping on his window, in opening it, a raven flew in. it perched itself upon his bedroom door and the man asked the raven is he would ever see his late wife, Lenore, again. when the man asked the bird a question, the bird replied, "nevermore."
  • bust of Pallas
  • with the raven giving the man an answer he did not wish to hear, the man demanded that the raven leave his room, to which it replied, "nevermore."

  • the raven didn't leave, even though the man demanded it. he did not leave the bust of pallas sitting on his chamber door.
  • "Pallas," mentioned many times in "The Raven," is a greek goddess of wisdom. in the poem, this is what the bird sits on when he is in the man's bedroom.
