  • It was a cheerful morning on a bright summer day. The people of the village were beginning to gather in the town square around 10:00 with their families to participate in the annual Lottery that was held on June 27th every year.
  • As the adults talked among themselves, the children were playing recklessly and collecting stones to add to their pile. When Mr. Summers walked into the town square carrying the black wooden box, everyone gathered around him, for the Lottery was beginning.

  • Each Family put their names in the box hoping not to receive the black mark are their card. (Their is one black mark on one of the cards and if you receive the it, then you will be sacrificed for the town.) The moment when Mr. Summers pulled the chosen card out of the box everyone was listening attentively to hear who it be.
