  • Oedipus's flaw that causes downfall is how he is so caught up in his self and his own fate that he doesn't focus on real problem is. He is determined and focused on himself and no one else which ends up hurting himself.
  • anagnorisis
  • Oedipus's hubris for himself causes him to believe he can out run his fate. By running from is fate actually causes his fate to become true.
  • Nemesis
  • The peripeteia occurs when Oedipus finds out he is adopted. This makes him have to search harder for his true parents so he can try to outrun his fate.
  • Catharsis
  • The anagnorisis occurs when Oedipus realizes who his true parents. This moment of discovery changes how he looks at his past actions and the relationships he had.
  • The nemesis in Oedipus is his fate that is he will kill his biological father and marry his biological mother.
  • The audience feels pity after Oedipus realizes he can't outrun his fate and now he has to live with the guilt of his actions.
