  • "Merry Christmas! What right have you to be merry? What reason have you to be merry? You're poor enough." (622).
  • "A merry Christmas, uncle! God save you!" (622).
  • "I am here tonight to warn you that you have yet a chance and hope of escaping my fate." (629).
  • Internal Conflict
  • The light on the Ghost of Christmas Past's head is a symbolism of the way to Scrooge's past. In the story it says, "But the strangest thing about it was, that from the crown of its head there sprang a bright clear jet or light"(623).
  • Theme
  • "God bless us everyone!"(648).
  • "Another idol has displaced me; and, if it can cheer and comfort you in time to come as I would have tried to do, I have no just cause to grieve."(638).
  • Scrooge is indirectly characterized as rude. Scrooge's nephew was being kind and wishing him a merry Christmas but Scrooge responded very rudely.
  • Internal Conflict
  • "What idol has displaced you?" (638).
  • Marley's internal conflict is that he's done so many bad things in his past so he got chains when he died representing all the bad things he's done.
  • Theme
  • "This is the end of it, you see! He frightened everyone away from him when he was alive, to profit us when he was dead! Ha, ha, ha!"(660).
  • The theme is that even poor people can be merry and happy. Tiny Tim might not live and his family is very poor but he's still very cheerful and merry for Christmas.
  • Scrooge's internal conflict is when Belle broke up with him because he chose to care about money more than her.
  • The theme is to always be nice to people. In the Christmas Carol, Scrooge dies and no one even cares, some people are even happy he died.
