Marley was getting older and wasn't able to move as well as he used to. He still had that spark of energy in himself but just not as much as before. John and Jenny and their kids all decided that they wanted to go to Disney Land. So they left Marley at a big animal shelter with lots of dogs. The doctors said they would keep a close eye on him.
When they were four hours away from their house they got a call that Marley's stomach was twisted around. They said they could operate but they wouldn't want him to suffer the pain of operation. "Operate this time and then if it flips again you know what to do." John had said over the phone.
Marley got really hurt and he isn't looking good. John and the vet were talking and the vet told him, "Somehow, Marley is getting better, I just can't believe it! I thought he would never get better after that fall." John asked, "When will he be able to come home?"
Marley got to come home after a couple of weeks and he spent most of his time inside and sleeping. He could barely move and he was old. John and Jenny had talked and had made their decision. John drove Marley to the vet and they gave Marley and John some time alone. Then they gave him the shot. Marley was buried in between two cherry trees with little gifts from everyone.
