Storyboard Text

  • This was not the kind of place where you'd see members of the Party: "The blue overalls could not be a common sight in a street like this" (71).
  • That's strange that he's out here
  • *Bang*
  • I wonder what's going on?
  • A steamer has struck the town!!
  • Everyone on the streets had run into building to seek protection. A steamer was approaching them. A man yells "Steameer! look out gov'nor" (Orwell 71).
  • Winston was worried about going into the proles pubs and talking to them, it wasn't against the rules, but it was unusual: "As usual, there was no definite rule against talking and frequenting their pubs, but it was far too unusual action to pass unnoticed" (74).
  • PUB
  • Should I go in??
  • The capitalists used ordinary citizens to their benefit: "Everything existed for their benefit. You the ordinary people, the workers were their slaves." (76)
  • What was your life like before the revolution? People my age don't know much about it.
  • The ordinary citizens were their work horses and slaves
  • Yes they wanted you to show that you respected them. I didn't agree with it, but I always showed them I did.
  • Do you feel that these treat you as if they were inferior to you?
  • Winston realized after the man got up to use the restroom that there was no use in asking anymore, and that the question could not be answered. The older people could only remember random facts, their memory of other things failed. Rather than important things, they “remembered a million useless things" (79). The Party used this to their advantage, for “when the memory failed and written records falsified, [ . . . ] the claim of the Party have improved the conditions of human life had got to be accepted" (79).
  • would you rather live now or would you rather go back to life in 1925?
