  • We meet Mr. and Mrs. White and their son Herbert. They live in a cottage out of town where its raining and, are being visited by Srg. Major Morris.
  • Climax
  • Srg. Major Morris tells the family about a monkey paw with magical wishing powers. He throws it in the fire because he doesn't believe they should keep it but the family does anyways. For their first of three wishes Mr. White wishes for 200 pounds. They don't receive the money right away so they doubt the paw. Herbert dies the next day at work because he gets caught in the machinery. To show sympathy, the company offers the White family 200 pounds. Later that night Mrs. White wants to bring back her son by making her husband wish Herbert back. Mr. White agrees after consideration and Mrs. White is thrilled. After Mr. White makes the wish the he couple hears a knock on the door, it's Herbert!
  • Falling Action
  • The monkey's paw is the conflict because although it is granting the Whites their wishes, it is dong so in a way where it causes pain.
  • Resolution
  • Mr. White finds the monkey's paw, just as Mrs. White opens the door and, wishes his son away. Mrs. White is hoping her son was at the door.
  • As Mrs. White opens the door the street is empty and calm.
  • None! The story leaves the reader hanging.
