2-4-6-8 WE AIN'T GOING TO INTEGRATE!!!
On the first day of school Central High was crowded for blocks. The Arkansas National Guard surrounds the school and makes sure that one hurt the kids.
The crowd chanted harsh things and throw things at the African-America kids. They didn't like this decision and there making there voice heard.
On the way to school, some white men were looking like they were here to cause trouble. Melba and her mom were scared so they kept there distance.
The white men were trying to KILL them. They ran as fast as they could to there car. They were able to get to it and drive away safely.
At home Melba got a phone call. She thought it was Vince, but she had a rude awakening. It was a white man saying that he was going to get her.
After hearing this threat Melba is terrified, but Grandma India got her back. She told Melba not to worry and she stayed up all night protecting the house with her shotgun.
