Theme: In The Absolutely True Story of a Part Time Indian an important lesson learned is that being bullied can be an advantage to becoming mentally stronger.
After Arnold had been bullied for awhile he finally got enough courage to stand up for himself.
"Wow, he didn't kick my ass. He was actually nice. He paid me some respect" (Alexie 72).
When Arnold was being bullied and people stood up for him, it boosted his confidence greatly.
"Instead, it was Gordy who defended me...Penelope stood and dropped he text book. And then rodger stood and dropped his textbook" (Alexie 175).
