  • The South was primarily an agricultural society in which people lived in small villages, farms, and plantations
  • .The North was mainly an urban society in which people held jobs

  • the compromise of 1850. so with no slave state available to balance the entry of a free one, a major conflict ensued between the north and the south. the south was fearful that losing the balance of power in the senate would one day give the north the opportunty to end slavery
  • the missouri compromise, was an agreement between the northern and the southern states about allowing missouri to enter. but if they was allowed, there would be more slave states than free states.
  • I think that Slavery was not the only source of dispute. The North and South were very different in nature, and wanted different things from their government. In the North, society was fast becoming industrial. Immigrants and other stuff. The South, on the other hand, remained a region of small towns and large plantations

  • .Because of these differences, people of the North and South found it hard to agree on social and political issues. . A major conflict was states' rights (South) versus a strong central government (North). .another states' rights issue, was the nullification crisis in the early 1830s, it was a dispute over tariffs. the north supported high tariffs on imported european products.

  • the Missouri compromise would have altered he balance of power in the senate to the side of the slave states. the congress thereafter forbade slavery north of the 36 30, parallel. . In the Compromise of 1850, senators Clay and Douglas wrote the compromise bill called the compromise of 1850,both groups grudgingly accepted.

  • Georgia approved the compromise and thereby preventing a civil war for 11 years
  • This was led by Alexander and Robert, and the promise of the passage of the Fugitive Slave Act.
  • Sectionalism caused the dispute over slavery to intensify, because of certain events happening . Different ideas and perspectives lead to sectionalism between the North and South. The North and the South were at the heart over the disputes involving the slavery, because the South wanted slaves, and freedom for them, while the North hated them and slaves are not citizens.
  • Southerners felt that the abolition of slavery would destroy their region's economy. Northerners believed that slavery should be abolished. The Secession in Georgia happened when Lincoln ran for President, this idea divided Georgia .A year later Georgia seceded from the Union; Georgia was the 5th state to secede. georgia lost the worchester v. georgia case but refused to release the missionaries or stop pushing for cherokee removal.
  • Georgia involved in the Georgia Platform, while debating over the Compromise of 1850 was raging in congress, prominent Georgia politicians were deciding if the state should accept the terms of Compromise. If passed, it would give the free states more representation in the U.S Senate and end the balance of power that had been established for 30 years. Georgia approved the Compromise of 1850.
