  • I dont like school!
  • I know that I will not do well on these tests...
  • Although my students lack English language proficiency, they are very smart.
  • My students will use their native language and prior experiences and knowledge to help each other learn.
  • It is the middle of the school year and Ms. J is doing her best to prepare her ELs take the state's standardized tests. Although her students have made progress, she is worry that her students will not do well because of their low English proficiency.
  • I am learning so much!
  • After weeks of teaching to the test, her students did not improve their scores in the practice tests. This is when Ms. J realized that there was something missing.
  • Welcome ladies, gentlemen, and students to our play! Hope you enjoy the show!!
  • We are so excited!!
  • Ms. J decided to learn more about her student's culture, language, and needs. For the next several days, she created meaningful lessons that focused on the needs of her students.
  • Congratulations Ms. J your students did very well in the state's tests. How were you able to accomplish this?
  • It was not me, it was the students. They know so much but I was not meeting their needs. We talked about their cultures and experiences and create a community to help each other succeed!
  • After weeks of learning about Romeo and Juliet, the students decided that they wanted to perform the play for everyone to see in the school's assembly. Ms. J had taught them so much about Shakespeare that they enjoyed every minute of school now.
  • After weeks of practice and learning about other genres, they decided to perform Romeo and Juliet since it was their favorite. The students felt proud, accomplished and most importantly they loved being in school and learning.
  • After their performance, the students agreed that they would perform another play for the school's next assembly. On the day of the test, students were confident and determined that they would do great. Several weeks after, Mr. O called Ms. J to the office to congratulate her on her students' success in the standardized tests.
