Killing an Elephant Part 2

The narrator doesn't want to kill the elephant, but his pride and him being a British police officer makes him believe that me must shoot it anyways. The narrator does not know the proper area to shoot the elephant to properly kill it. When the narrator shots, he instead of killing it properly leaves it on the ground in agony and doesn't die.
The narrator continues to shoot the elephant in hopes that he will have a quick death, but the narrator still does not know of the elephants anatomy. Several shots to the head and chest didn't work. The elephant continues to suffer, till the narrator turns and walked away. The Burmese people stripped the elephant till there was nothing left.
The narrator recounts the aftermath of the shooting. The elephant owner, who was indian, was furious, but hid opinion didn't count for much.Due to the elephant killing the coolie, the narrator was legally in the right for killing the elephant. Besides this, the narrator knew he killed the elephant so he wouldn't look a fool infant of everyone.
