#### Storyboard Text

• You may have heard of composition of functions in math, but did you know they also have real world applications?
• f(g(x))
• (f o g)(x)
• h(c(x))
•
• Say you work as a car salesman and you make a base salary plus commission on the cars you sell. You can use composition of functions to figure how much you'll make.
• But first you need the info. So let's say you make 1% commission of all your sales for the month plus a \$2000 a month base salary.
• g(x) = x + 2000
• f(x) = .01x
• Now you have to combine the functions. But is it f(g(x)) or g(f(x))? Once you have the answer you can create a composite function.
• ?
• In order to represent your monthly pay, you need to use g(f(x)). That is because you don't get .01 of your sales and \$2000, you get .01 of your sales and and an added \$2000.
• g(f(x))=    .01x   +   2000
•
•
• Now as a car salesman you can figure out how much you'll make at the end of the month and plan ahead!
