Storyboard Text

  • Scarlet Ibis Symbol
  • The color red Symbol
  • Imagery The bleeding tree........
  • The symbol is the Scarlet Ibis. I think the Scarlet Ibis symbolizes power and strength. In the text it said that the ibis should have never made it all the way from South America-Florida area but it did. The ibis did all that It could to survive until it no longer could, like Doodle.
  • Theme Pride
  • The color red symbolizes sadness/death. The color red is expressed all throughout the story. On one specific part when it was way back in the beginning when Doodle was just born it said that his body was small and shriveled red. Also at the end it says that when Doodle died he was covered all over in red. (his blood)
  • Dynamic Character Doodles Brother
  • Imagery is visually descriptive or figurative language using the 5 senses. In the text this paragraph has a lot of imagery "I t was in the clove of seasons, summer was dead but autumn had not yet been born, that the ibis lit in the bleeding tree. The flower garden was stained with rotting brown magnolia petals and ironweeds grew rank amid the purple phlox. The five o’clocks by the chimney still marked time, but the oriole nest in the elm was untenanted and rocked back and forth like an empty cradle. The last graveyard flowers were blooming, and their smell drifted across the cotton field and through every room of our house, speaking softly the names of our dead." This paragraph is full of imagery.
  • Personal Reaction
  • I chose the theme pride for this story because it explains it so much. "Having too much pride in yourself tears down others even if it may not seem." I chose this theme because Doodles brother is so ashamed of having a brother like Doodle he wants to do as much as he can to change him. Taking in too much pride of himself causing him in the end to hurt Doodle. This picture shows an explanation of how he would want to see something vs. what it actually is. In the text Doodles brother states
  • The dynamic character would be Doodles older brother because in the beginning he absolutely despised Doodle. He hated having a brother who was messed up and couldn't, so he couldn't play. But as we go on through the story Doodle and his brother create a bond. Doodles brother has learned how to get over his differences and learned to help him instead of hurt him.
  • How I feel at the end of the story is kind of surprised, because I would have never guessed that this is the way the story would have ended. I think that Doodles brother is a good brother. Even though his brother had done so many horrible things and have thought horrible thoughts he has done so much to help Doodle succeed. Like he taught him to walk, and showed him his favorite places.
