During Mom and Dads time in Southern Vietnam, they lived a quiet life with their family's and each other. In Vietnam, it is primarily a agricultural nation with a population that is largely Buddhist, 87% ethnic Vietnamese, listen to instrumental music, and wear simple clothing.
After Vietnam gained independence in 1954, it left the country divided between the north, and south. In 1965, a deadly war broke loose between them.
Looks like a war is going start.
During the war, many people lost their money, homes, and even family to the enemy.
Come out! We know you're in there.
The deadly war also needed more people participating, therefore people were forced to join the military and risk their lives. People would hide when the military arrives at their doorstep.
With this never ending conflict between the north and south, Mom and Dad had to get out of there as soon as possible and get to safety.
We need to leave. This is getting to dangerous.
They gathered everyone in their family and talked about where they should go to leave the war, and decided on Canada.
