Storyboard Text

  • Hello, everyone! I am your teacher, Ms. Rumpt. I am going to talk to you all about reconstruction.
  • After the civil war, the states needed to become united again. Lincoln had a plan called the 10% plan which stated only 10% of southern men had to swear an allegiance to the union.  Congress had other plans and wanted to punish the south and made the Wade-Davis bill that made it so 50% of southern men had to swear allegiance to the union.
  • Because of this, the Civil rights act of 1866 was passed by Congress, hoping to stop the black codes. It said that AAs were free to enjoy equal rights with the rest of us citizens.
  • The south really did not want to give slavery away so they created black codes. For example, freedmen were not aoud to be taught how to read or write.
  • Northern troops came to the south to enforce the CRA of 1866.
  • Even though this was gone, jim crow laws still segregated blacks and whites
  • The Freedmen's Bureau was created and it helped former slaves get an education and housing aid.
  • The KK started to rise and scare and intimidate AAs.  Also, reconstruction ended because of the compromise of 1876. The last Union soldier left in 1877.
  • Finally
  • Last but not least, we have the amendments. The 13th amendment ended slavery. The 14th amendment granted citezenship to AA's. The 15th amendment let AA men vote. That is the end of class see you on thursday
  • That took forever
  • Boring
  • Ok, that is the end of the comic!
