The First Battle of Bull Run happened on July 21, 1861, near Manassas Junction, Virginia. It was the first major land battle of the Civil War. About 35,000 Union troops attacked 20,000 Confederate forces expecting a quick and easy victory. However, the Confederate Army emerged victorious, sending the Union forces retreating back to Washington D.C. The South now held the flawed belief that they would easily win and end the war.
I thought the Union had the advantage over the South. We were expecting a quick victory.
Indeed. Perhaps this war will not be as easy as we first hoped.
The Confederacy should have no problem winning this war. We will be victorious!

We won! Despite the North's supposed advantages, we won!
