  • Well boys, what country we oughta try 'an steal today.. I mean.. ask nicely if they'd like to come over for tea?
  • The U.S. had hundreds of millions invested in Cuban plantations and did not want to lose it to Spain..
  • So.. the U.S. had it's eyes set on claiming Cuba as U.S. territory
  • However, one of it's ships called the USS Maine was targeted at sea
  • A perfect example of yellow journalism from competing newspaper owners William Randolph Hearst and Joseph Pulitzer
  • So, what do you think about Spain, Joseph?
  • Well Will, I think they're asking for war!
  • Headlines: “Who Destroyed the Maine?”
  • The media stirred up a lot of feelings with the people...
  • I say we oughta go to war!
  • We oughta teach them Span-ards a lesson!
  • Next drink is on me, boys!
