Socs against Greasers
Cherry affects Ponyboy because she shows him that someone can look at a greaser as a human being, and that some Socs aren't so bad. She's one of the only characters that Ponyboy really can express himself with, like sunsets. She helps Ponyboy understand that everyone has problems, even Socs. She was extremely compassionate for helping the greasers even after Bob died because of Johnny and Ponyboy, and this showed him she's understaning of what other problems he could be going through.
When Ponyboy got back from the hospital, he got to see the gang again, and you really see how much he means to them and this happened in his house. The house was where Ponyboy was stuck after the rumble, and where he made amends with his brothers after Darry hit Ponyboy in the kitchen. In the house, Ponyboy was also able to make amends with Randy when he came to see Ponyboy before the hearing. This house was a place where some problems started and where some problems were finished.
Bob died because of this issue, and Ponyboy and Johnny both got jumped by Socs because of this issue. It made Ponyboy bring out his defensive side, and his more aggressive side towards the end of the book. He can't walk down a street alone without the worry of being jumped by Socs, but he can't affect this problem because most of the Socs he comes across judge Ponyboy before they even know him. But because of this, he learns to never judge someone by how they look.
