  • EXPOSITION
  • RISING ACTION
  • CONFLICT
  • The narrator gives his brother a nickname, Doodle, which he soon goes by all the time. He is ashamed of having a crippled brother, so he decides to teach him how to walk.
  • CLIMAX
  • The narrator teaches doodle how to walk and do things that normal children do. Including running and swimming.
  • FALLING ACTION
  • The narrator is ashamed of having a crippled brother so he teaches him more and more each day.
  • RESOLUTION
  • The Scarlet Ibis dies.
  • The narrator runs off leaving Doodle behind, because he can't keep up and fell.
  • Doodle dies and the narrator is grieving tremendously. He feels guilty because he left him behind and he wanted to change Doodle so he was more suitable to play with.
