  • Loisels get invited to the ball.

  • Go to your old friend Madame Forestier! Here is four hundred francs.
  • Loisels go to the ball and later lose the necklace.
  • LOOK AT HOW BEAUTIFUL SHE LOOKS!!
  • Oh how I love my necklace!
  • Ten years later, Madame Loisel and Madame Forestier meet again.
  • Oh poor Mathilde! That necklace was a cheap piece of jewelry !
  • I spent ten years paying off that necklace! You never noticed that it was a duplicate.
  • Monsieur Loisel arrives home with an invitation to the ball. Madame Loisel is hesitant to accept because she feels that she has nothing to wear. She is convinced that she will look poor compared to everyone else. She borrows a necklace from her friend, Madame Forestier, to go with her new dress.
  • Madame Loisel arrives at the ball and receives many compliments. She is having an amazing time and then loses her necklace on the way out. The Loisels search for the necklace but have no luck. The Loisels end up buying a very expensive duplicate to give Madame Forestier. It takes them three years to pay off all their debts.
  • After the Loisels finally pay their debts, Madame Loisel bumps into Madame Forestier in a park. Madame Forestier does not recognize Madame Loisel at first because she has aged. Loisel confronts Forestier on her losing the necklace and buying an expensive duplicate. Madame Forestier is in shock and informs Loisel that the necklace she lent her was a cheap piece .
