The birth of Siddhartha Gautama took place during the 16th century in Nepal. The Buddha was born into a royal and wealthy family. It was said when he walked flowers would bloom.
There was a great prophecy from a fortune teller that stated Siddhartha would either become a King or a religious Monk.
He got everything he wanted, living a life of luxury from a young age. His parents wanted him to become a great king, so they made sure he was sheltered from old age, death, disease and religion. He grew up unaware of these factors, until one day he went on a chariot ride and witnessed them.
He witnessed everything his parents did not want him to. Old age, as well as a man with a deforming disease.
He witnessed death as well as a funeral procession.
Lastly he witnessed a monk practicing the serenity of renunciation.
