Storyboard Text

  • hi Piper
  • Hey Moose
  • They so like each other
  • Al Capone
  • The children of Alcatraz live on the island with their familys. On page 3, Moose says, "And there are twenty-three other kids on the island because, their dads work as guards or cooks or doctors or electricians for the prison like my dad does."
  • According to the story, Al Capone does the laundry of the families that live on Alcatraz. On page 75, Piper gives out a flier at school that says, "ONCE IN A LIFETIME OPPORTUNITY! Get your clothes laundered by Al Capone and other world-famous public enemies! All clothes cleaned on Alcatraz at the only laundry facility in the world run by convicted felons including the notorious Scarface Al and Machine Gun Kelly! Only costs 5 cents."
  • On the map page Piper's house or the warden's house is a mansion. On page 35, Moose says, "Across the road from the cell house is a fancy mansion with flowerpots on the steps and curtains in the windows. "
  • According to Alcatraz History.com, the families of the Alcatraz guards did indeed live on the island. They lived in building #64, three apartment buildings, one large duplex, and four large wooden houses for senior officers. There was around 300 people living on the island at a time not counting the convicts or workers.
  • According to Alcatraz History .com , the convicts of Alcatraz do the following jobs; laundry, tailor shop, cobblers shop, model shop, all other shops, gardening, and labor details. It is very possible that during Al's 4 1/2 years on the island that he at least once did the laundry.
  • According to Alcatraz History.com, the warden of Alcatraz lived on the island across from the cell house in a mansion, like Warden Williams did in Al Capone Does My Shirts. Sometimes the convicts would cook and clean for him as well.
