  • Okay, Class! Today we are going to be changing the class up a little bit! We are going to have individual reading
  • ELA CLASS  April 14th, 2018
  • This book is really interesting. I can connect to it by...
  • ELA CLASS  April 15th, 2018
  • Whole class reading is used with the best intentions; however, it is important to have a purpose when having the class read. Whole class reading does not take individual needs into consideration.
  • GUIDED READING
  • ELA CLASS  April 12th, 2018
  • Teachers will need to gradually release the student from whole class reading to independent reading. One of the most important steps is to teach the students how to pick out books that they will actually read and enjoy. The books need to challenge them but not deter them.
  • Supported Independent Reading
  • ELA CLASS  April 12th, 2018
  • Conferring with students allows the teacher to see what the student is doing well and what they need help with. It also allows the teacher to see if the reading is too challenging or too easy. It keeps the students accountable to comprehend their reading.
  • ELA CLASS  April 12th, 2018
  • Guided Reading is where the teacher works with a small group of students of similar reading levels. The students are in charge of decoding and using reading skills they already know.
  • Supported Independent Reading is where the students read independently, yet confer with the teacher to make sure they are understanding the text. It gives the student autonomy and purpose when reading books they have chosen.
  • Having independent reading while conferring with students, helps the student grow as a reader. It also helps the teacher to see a more personalized look at the student's skills. It helps encourage the students to enjoy reading.
