Storyboard Text

  • Tony is a merchant from West Africa. He is making a journey through the Sahara so he can trade his salt for gold . He is a part of the Trans-Saharan trade. Tony is from Taghaza also known as the village built with salt. Since it is such a long journey he needs to take some food so he uses natural resources to feed him and Twaimz.
  • Hi my name is Tony. And this is my camel Twaimz. I am an Arab Merchant that trades salt.
  • Every time Tony leaves on a trip to Ghana he takes a general trade route. Many people take this route when going to trade with the people of Ghana. This journey is long and hard because of the harsh climates and weather conditions. It also is hard because the wind is blowing sand everywhere. That's why they use camels to travel because the camels have two layers of eyelashes so the sand doesn't get in there eyes. And the also have hair covering there ears to sand doesn't get inside.
  • After the long and hard journey they have finally arrived in the city of Wangar. He has made this long and hard journey because he knows that it will benefit him in the long run because he will have gold to trade with.
  • Ghana taxers collect tax. The type of government Ghana had was Monarchy so every penny they made went to the king. The tax supports the government so they can overcome other places. The taxes they collect also fund the army so they can have new equipment. The traders were taxes both when they came and when they left. Since the armies were funded they could protect the trade routes from bandits.
  • Sure here you go
  • Hi, Sir can I have your tax?
  • Since they don't speak the same language they use a certain type of trading called silent bartering. They make a sound to warn each other than one has made an offer or counter offer. In this scene Tony has offered one piece of salt. The lady trader is going to decide whether not to except it.
  • *clap* *clap*
  • This girl trader is concidered a middleman because when the traders are trading they aren't trading directly with the government of Ghana. They are trading with someone with one of there traders.

  • I like her offer I'm going to accept this. *clap* *clap*
