Storyboard Text

  • Winston expresses quiet optimism as Syme proceeds to rant about Newspeak: "You haven't a real appreciation of Newspeak, Winston" (Orwell 46).
  • He is a mindless robot, smh!
  • Blah, blah, blah, Newspeak, blah, blah, blah, awesome!
  • "Hullo, hullo!" My children...
  • Parsons, Winston's neighbor at Victory Mansions, joins them at the table and tells of his children who are constantly on watch for unorthodox behavior: "Mischievous little beggars they are, both of them, but talk about keenness" (Orwell 50).
  • Ahh Parson!
  • Oh look it's this "bloody fool" **rolls eyes** Here we go...
  • Although seemingly uneasy about this, Parsons praises his children nonetheless: "Parson went on triumphantly: "My kid made sure he was some kind of enemy agent might have been dropped by parachute, for instance" (50).
  • My children are da best!
  • **Trumpet plays** Praise us!
  • From the telescreen comes a loud announcement: "Attention comrades! We have glorious news for you. We have won the battle for production!" (Orwell 51). Among other things, the chocolate ration is going up. Winston distinctly remembers that, just the day before, the ration was being reduced and he wonders if he is alone in this memo.
  • This doesn't make any damn sense!
  • As Winston daydreamed about "the girl with dark hair, the girl from the Fiction Department" (Orwell 53). He was unaware of what was going on around him.
  • Winston is drug out of his muse with a "violent jerk" as the "girl at the next table had turned partly round and was looking at him. It was the girl with dark hair" (54).
  • I see you!
  • Why is she following me? Weird!
