To me, the jungle symbolizes the harsh condition that one would enter when going into the" real world" when a young adult leaves home for the first time. Evidence of this is provided in the book when Ben tells Willy "I entered the jungle at the age of 17, and walked out at the age of 21..."
The diamond represents Willy and Ben's desire for wealth; in the book, it is mentioned that Ben traveled to Africa, which is known for the illegal transport of "blood diamonds", therefore this could be the literal source of Ben's wealth. (Page
The dark lighting apparent in the book could symbolize the loss of Willy's mentality; in his mind, Willy could be a dark place which is why he is seeing his dead brother, and other depressing flash backs. This is evident on page
