  • In the month of December, on a could winter night, while I pondered weak and weary, and I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a rapping, a rapping at my chamber door, there must be a visitor, I muttered, tapping at my lovely chamber door, only this, and nothing more.

  • My heart grew stronger; hesitating then and no longer, sir or madam, said I, truly your forgiveness I implore, as I was napping, there was a gentle tapping at my chamber door, I heard you and I grew scarce, here i opened wide the door, darkness there, and nothing more.
