Esperanza talks about some girls who lives across the street from her house. 'Two girls raggedy as rats live across the street." (Cisneros 12).] This is a simile because she is describing the girl as raggedy rats.
In the chapter "Laughter," Esperanza talks about everybody's laugh and how there all different. She says, "Not the shy ice cream bells' giggle of Rachel and Lucy's family, but all of a sudden and surprised like apile of dishes breaking." (Cisneros 17).] This is a simile because she is describing what her friends family laughter is like.
In the chapter "Meme Ortiz," Esperanza describes Meme's dog, "AS a man dressed in a dog suit." (Cisneros 21).] This would both be simile and personification because she is describing Meme's dog as a man who looks like he's wearing a dog suit.
