  • 'Noiselessly Lennie appeared in the open doorway and stood there looking in...'
  • "S'pose George don't come back no more... and just ain't coming back. What'll you do then?
  • "... They'll tie ya up with a collar, like a dog."
  • While they were talking, Crooks mentioned about how George might leave Lennie behind on the farm and told him George got hurt. Lennie got angry. He later then calmed Lennie.
  • "Who hurt George?"
  • "He won't do it," Lennie cried. "George wouldn't do anything like that."
  • "You guys is just kidding' yourself."
  • "George says I get to tend 'em. He promised."
  • Candy walked in looking for Lennie. He started talking about the land they were going to buy in front of Crooks, that should not have been told. Crooks didn't believe them and ask questions.
  • "I got it figured it out. We can make some money on them rabbits if we go about it right."
  • "You got no rights coming' in a colored man's room."
  • "Maybe you better go along to your own house now. We don't want no trouble."
  • "Curley ain't been here."
  • Curley's wife walked into the room. She becomes racist towards Crooks. Lennie is fascinated by her. She then leaves.
  • "Well, you keep your place then,."
  • "Any you boys seen Curley?"
  • "It's George," Lennie cried. And he answered, "Here, George. I'm right in here."
  • "Lennie. Oh, Lennie. You were in the barn?"
  • George came looking for Lennie.
  • "Oh, George! I been figurin' and figurin'. I got it doped out how we can even make some money on them rabbits."
  • "Didn't tell nobody but Crooks."
  • George scowled. "I though I tol' you not to tell nobody about that."
  • 'The three men went out of the door. Crooks sat on his bunk and looked at the door for a moment. ...he fell slowly to rubbing his back.'
