Storyboard Text

  • Hello, my name is Queen Maya. I am the mother of Prince Siddartha . Before my son was born I had a dream about how I was carried high over the Himalayas to a silver mountain and set on a silver couch.
  • Then a white elephant with 6 tusks walked around me and then struck me in my right side. When I told the Hindu priest he said I was caring a child who would be a great man.
  • Prince Siddartha was born around 563 BCE. He was born in a garden
  • My son looked a couple years older than he was. He could also walk and talk.
  • My father wanted me to have a successful future. My father worried about the predictions made by the Brahmins. They said that if I saw the world suffering I might give up my royal duties and seek a spiritual life.
  • When I was 16 I got married. My wife was very beautiful and a noblewoman. For 12 years are family was just the two of us then we had a son when I was 29.
  • My first trip was when I realized what it looks like to age and to look and get old. My second trip was when I realized that some people don't get proper nourishment and become very sick. My third trip was when I realized that everybody dies, and I will die too.
  • When I became a father my father gave me more freedom to explore outside of the palace walls. My first 3 trips made me realize what is happening outside palace walls.
  • My experiences with the under privilege really changed me. I wanted to find the happiness and peace that the ascetic had found. I decided to give up my old life and search for enlightenment.
  • One evening I went deep into the forest, I took off all my royal clothes including my jewelry. I put on a simple robe, and cut off my hair with a knife. From then on out I became Ascetic.
  • I rinsed myself off in a river on my 35th birthday. It was then that I realized I was going to become enlightened. I sat on a tree and meditated all night until I had become Buddha. I learned the wisdom, of how to gain freedom, and the importance of Karma. That was how I became Buddha.
  • I decided I didn't want to be a prince or a ascetic. I wanted to seek a middle path. I believed I was on the right path.
