• E=mc squared
• Very good! Here is some candy.
• Here is half the candy I got today.
• WOW! Thanks!
• Hey pass me the ball
• I did not like that.
• Since you won the bet and rode it, I will give you the candy tomorrow at school.
• Here are the 8 pieces of candy I owe you.
• Great now I have 22 pieces of candy even after giving you half of what I had yesterday. I wonder how many I started with. I'll ask the math teacher.
• If I started with an unknown amount of candy then gave half to her and then got 8 more pieces and ended up with 22. How many pieces did I start with?
• 1/2x + 8 = 22 -8 = -8 1/2x = 14 times 2= times 2 x = 28
• First you need to find you equation which in this case is --1/2x + 8 = 22--. Then you will need to subtract on both sides to follow the equality property of subtraction and you then would end up with 1/2x=14. next you need to multiply by the reciprocal which in this case would be to multiply by 2 on both sides to follow the equality property of multiplication. Then after that step you get your answer which would be x = 28 so you started with 28 pieces of candy.
