My whole life I never knew what suffering was, and I wanted to understand it. I left my family in the night, with no explanation or goodbyes. I was a prince who became a begger.
For 7 years I wandered homeless and starving, remembering my family each day. I didn't believe I had suffered enough to understand.
After 7 years of torture, I meditated under a bodhi tree and while in a dream like a state I awakened the 4 truths. 1. People suffer because their minds are not at ease 2. The condition comes from wanting what one doesn't have or wanting life to be different 3. People can stop suffering by not wanting 4. People can stop wanting by following the eight fold path
I ran home to share my realization with my family. I was radiating with energy and needed to share my truths.
S: I missed you every day, I beg for your forgiveness. I left to understand suffering. Leaving you and our boy was the hardest decision of my life. Y: I felt unloved when you left, you just disappeared with no discussion. S: If I thought about talking to you it would break my heart, but instead I broke yours. Y: It was like you didn't care, so what brought you home. S: I discovered 4 noble truths will you forgive me and become my partner in teachings. Y: Yes
After I passed away my followers spread my teachings throughout the world. Buddhism is now the followed by 7.1% of the world. It is about 2,500 years old.
